Within the context of the current reinterpretation of traditional urban music from the Río de la Plata, the tango, Arlequín takes as its reference one of the most typical formations of this style, the tango quintet, using it as a canvas to display a series of new ideas and musical reflections from a wide variety of places. It is evident that the instrumentation, which includes the emblematic instrument of tango, the bandoneon, places us in a specific context of origin, but Arlequín’s work also follows other, and very diverse, paths. Influenced by jazz and rock, classical music and its innovative proposals from the first half of the 20th century, Andean and African-American folk music, as well as the conscious use of aleatoric techniques and improvisation in a broad sense, the quintet presents a mature work that culminates in an exuberant and innovative musical identity, the result of all these influences.

Arlequín is composed of Montserrat Prieto (violin), Nelson Arriagada  (double bass), Roberto Dañobeitia (electric guitar, composer), Rodolfo Jorquera (bandoneon, composer), and Francisco Núñez (piano, composer).
